Israel's finest are going for gold

Small but perfectly formed. That is what Israeli sports fans are hoping following the announcement of the country's Olympic squad.

Although numbers are down from Beijing, quality rather than quantity is the name of the game this time. When I met IOC Secretary General Efraim Zinger last year, he told me of the top targets for the London Games. "Two win two medals and for a female athlete to stand on the podium," he said.

The 36 sportsmen and women have worked hard to cement their seat on the plane, and although many will arrive in the capital unknown, they are on a mission to impress and there will be no better feeling than if they can return through customs at Ben Gurion Airport with medals to declare.

* Football pundits up and down the land have been reflecting on England's Euro 2012 campaign, which ended with a heartbreaking penalty shoot-out defeat against Italy in the quarter-finals. Many have touched on technical deficiencies and the youngsters out there must take note. I'm constantly trying to drum into my son the importance of using with both feet.

It is hard to believe that even our finest footballers struggle to string two passes together and show good touch and close control and that is why I'm delighted about the plans to push small-sided youth football matches. It's crucial to get the basics right or else we will always be playing catch-up with Europe's finest.

* Faithfold A have moved quickly to re-sign midfield general Paul Babai and Jonny Haik from North West Neasden. The dynamic duo left the Superhoops 12 months ago and will help soften the blow of losing top-scorer Mike Pearson to Lions. A midfield trio of Alex Levack, Alex Kaye and Babai is a simply mouth-watering prospect.

* I was disappointed to hear Giuliano Grazioli is no longer required by the new set-up at Barnet. A friend of our youth football, the great and good in Jewish sport hold Graz and his coaching techniques in high regard and I can't imagine he will be a jobseeker for long.

I'd also like to wish Michael Stone, the former first-team coach at Underhill, and Anthony Bloch, secretary of Blackburn Rovers, all the best after they parted company with their respective clubs.

* Jewish football recently lost a dear friend when David Price, the founder of Kinnor Football Club, passed away. I heard only good things about David, a man who built one of the finest Jewish youth football sections. It was great to see a commemorative Fair Play trophy, donated by Jason Webber, named in his honour at the Hong Kong Maccabi football awards. David Efron was the recipient.

PR Jobs Created by Perfect Storm of Social Media, Business ...

Posted by Admin on June 27, 2012

Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) October 12, 2011

A ?perfect storm? of social media, business hiring to stay competitive and retirements has created new public relations job opportunities said the author of a new book ?PRoactive: The Public Relations Job Hunters Guide.?

?The PR profession is showing strong job growth but PR job hunters need to adopt proactive new social media search strategies if they?re going to find the hidden jobs in this economy,? said Jeff Domansky, CEO of Peak Communications Inc and author of the new job seeker?s guide.

He said PR job opportunities are growing despite the challenging US economy:

24% growth in PR jobs forecast by 2018
93% increase in PR job listings (Nov 2009 May 2011)
307% more ?social media marketing? job listings (Nov 2009 June 2011)
34% of PR professionals will reach retirement age in the next four to seven years.

?PR job hunters must source these difficult-to-find job openings and must also make a special effort to be found easily in social media,? Domansky said. ?This requires a whole new approach to using social media, managing online profiles and responding quickly to job openings in a very competitive environment.?

According to Domansky, many businesses downsized their PR and marketing too severely during the recession. Now they are hiring and trying to regrow and remain competitive by adding new PR talent to manage their new social media programs.

Several factors define the new reality faced by job seekers in public relations, marketing and other professions:

the average time to find a job in the US is now 39.7 weeks
52% of new graduates found their first job through social media
60% of new hires are made through personal connections and 37% of jobs are found through networking and not in job listings
91% of employers check online profiles as part of their hiring process
69% have rejected a candidate based on their social media profiles for a variety of online sins.

Domansky said his new book will help PR job hunters find the best PR industry job sites, learn how to create more effective resumes and online portfolios, network better online and offline and navigate new social media channels to find more job opportunities. The book also includes a 14-day blueprint and guide for PR job hunting strategies.

His best advice for job hunters? Keep using traditional PR job search strategies and add in the powerful advantages of social media.

?That?s really a touchstone for the PR profession today. The PR pros in biggest demand have a foundation in traditional PR and the knowledge and skills to manage social media and attract employers and recruiters,? he added.

?PRoactive: The Public Relations Job Hunters Guide? (ISBN 978-0-9877408-0-9) was written by Jeff Domansky, an APR-accredited PR agency CEO and consultant with more than 25 years experience. He is also editor of the popular The PR Coach blog. The 165-page book is now available in downloadable eBook format through ThePRCoach.com website and will be available in Kindle and print in November 2011.

Asia Gold-Currencies, euro crisis hit demand; premiums steady

* Rain gods rather than government eyed in India

* Premiums steady in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore

* Asian demand subdued

By Siddesh Mayenkar

MUMBAI, June 27 (Reuters) - Weaker local currencies are

weighing on gold demand from India, the world's largest consumer

of the precious metal, and Indonesia, another leading Asian

buyer, as traders also favour cash on concerns over a

deterioration in the euro zone crisis.

Premiums stayed steady in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore.

Traders in India, Asia's third-largest economy, are also

waiting for the monsoon to pick up, which could boost the income

of farmers, who buy more than half of India's gold.

"If the monsoon turns weak, jewellery demand will go further

down ... we are now dependent on gods rather than government,"

said Haresh Acharya, head of bullion desk of Parker Bullion in

western Indian city of Ahmedabad.

The fall in the rupee, which hit a record low last week, has

sent Indian gold prices soaring despite the weak global

trend, limiting imports. The rupee is important in determining

the landed cost of the dollar-quoted yellow metal.

The Indian government doubled import duty on gold to 4

percent in March in a bid to curb its bloated current account

deficit.

"Business is zero... the situation is very bad as there are

no hopes of appreciation in the rupee," said Acharya.

Gold was flat at $1,571.50 by 0548 GMT, after falling

on Tuesday on worries that a global economic slowdown triggered

by a worsening debt crisis in Europe could prompt investors to

turn to the relative safety of the U.S. dollar.

[I D: nL6E8HQ78B]

"We have seen very slow demand. They are worried about the

debt crisis in Europe, everybody is trying to keep more cash on

hand," said Dick Poon, manager, Heraeus Metals in Hong Kong,

adding the depreciating currency is also an issue for traders.

Traders are eyeing yet another European summit slated for

Thursday-Friday, the 20th such meeting called to try to resolve

the spreading crisis, which has sent gold prices to a record

high of about $1,920 an ounce as buyers seek safe havens.

Premiums on gold bars in Hong Kong stood around 70 cents to

a dollar an ounce above London prices, steady from a week

earlier. Premiums in Tokyo were also steady at 50 cents, while

in Singapore, premiums were flat at 70-80 cents.

There was a lack of enthusiasm among traders in Indonesia

before the traditional buying period of Ramadan holidays due to

depreciation in the local currency, dealers said.

"Despite Ramadan, buying from Indonesia is not high compared

to previous years as their local currency is weak," said a

Singapore-based dealer, referring the Muslim fasting month that

starts in July, when gift giving is at its peak.

China's jewellery market also entered the summer lull, with

no major festival in sight until early October.

WEEK AHEAD

Latest rainfall figures out from India suggest a below

average rainfall so far from June and another weekly update is

expected on Thursday. The Indian weather office is still

predicting an average monsoon.

Buying from rural areas accounts for about 60 percent of

gold imports, and farmers depend on monsoon rains for better

yields, production and profits.

Farmers often invest in gold due to a lack of banking

facilities in rural areas.

Boosting Your Internet Income Opportunity Using Maps Marketing ...

Affiliate marketing is a tough way to create an internet income opportunity and make a full timeinternet income opportunity google+ local living at doing it. I know because I?ve been working at it for nearly 4 years and while I do make money, the money I make from affiliate marketing alone is not enough to pay all my bills. That?s why I started diversifying what I?m doing online.

Let me explain and show you what I?ve had to do to make a living online.

First, I still do affiliate marketing?that?s the first thing I got into when I started to try to make a living online. I create websites and blogs that focus on a variety of niches and products and I drive traffic to these websites by getting them to rank on the first page of the search engines.

Learning how to do this successfully was difficult to do and I don?t think I would have ever learned how to do it if I hadn?t of pinched myself and invested in the Wealthy Affiliate. I hate spending money, but the training and support that you get in this program is well worth the money.

Next, I sell products on the internet using pay-per-click advertising. Doing this can be costly if you don?t learn how to do it properly. When I first started doing this type of paid advertising, I lost a lot of money?I mean a lot!

Fortunately, I quit doing PPC advertising and after I joined the Wealthy Affiliate Program, I found the training I needed to do PPC advertising successfully. I?m now successfully selling products online using PPC advertising. But, I?m not selling these products on Google Adwords, I?m using the 7Search program?much less expensive.

The next thing I did to increase my internet income opportunity was to start helping local offline businesses increase their online marketing efforts. People just don?t use the Yellow Pages like they use to. People nowdays go online to find a plumber when they need one. Helping local businesses to get their websites found online has been financially rewarding for me and my customers. I learned how to be successful at this using the Power 3 Marketing course.

Creating mobile websites for local businesses was the next step that I took towards making a full-time living by working onlie. Nearly 40% of all searches on the internet are done with mobile devices such as the SmartPhone. And, due to the growth of iPads, it?s estimated that over 50% of the searches done on the internet will be done with mobils devices by the summer of 2013.

Most local businesses don?t have a mobile website and I?m there to help them solve that problem?their websites become much more user-friendly for mobile device users.

Last of all, and this is the one that finally made it possible for me to earn a full-time living online, I?m now helping local business to get their business?s found on Google Maps?or, Google+ Local as Google now calls it (don?t you love it how Google is constantly changing?).

Take a look at the Google+ Places map below:

?

Those 3 businesses at the top of the map will secure over 50% of the clicks made on that page. My job is to create a new website and phone number (I OWN that website and phone number) for a local business and then get that business website and phone number at the top of Google+ Local?s map. It means huge new business opportunity for that local business owner.

I charge them $1,000- $2,000 to set that program up and $500 ? $1,000/month in maintenance fees. It?s a no-brainer for the business owner. If each customer generates the business owner an average of $200/customer profit and if the busines is getting 25 new customers/month? the owner is way ahead.

I?ve learned this last part of my business from MapsMarketingBlueprint.com (and, no, that is NOT an affiliate link? it?s only my recommendation).

Yes, the course is a bit expensive, but my first customer more than paid for that course. And, one thing I learned when I first started affiliate marketing, it will take you years to learn how to do it unless you pay someone to teach you.

These are the steps that I have taken to create an internet income opportunity and make a full-time living from online marketing?and, now, I?m my own boss!

Nara Wants To Build A Better Recommendation Platform, Starts With Restaurants And A $4 Million Series A Round

nara_logoNara is a small startup with big ambitions. The company, which is coming out of stealth mode today, aims to "automate, personalize and curate the Web." Nara's Boston-based team, which consists of a healthy mix of entrepreneurs, artists, computer scientists, neuroscientists and astrophysicists, says that it wants to build nothing less than a "a next-generation personal internet platform." Nara is starting a bit smaller than this, though, and is currently focusing on restaurant recommendations in a limited number of U.S. cities. In the long run, though, as Nara founder and CEO Thomas Copeman told me last week, the company hopes that its algorithms will be able to analyze all of the web and filter information based on the user's personal interests and preferences.

Down by the Sea - Scrapbooking - Families.com

by Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger

left

Don't let a summer trip to the beach go to waste. While your family is having fun in the sun, be sure to snap photos of their adventures in the sand and surf. Pictures of your kids chasing seagulls, collecting seashells, swimming, surfing, sunbathing, flying a kite or reading under a colorful beach umbrella are the heart and soul of a beach vacation-themed scrapbook.

In addition to snapping images of your trip, consider jotting down some of the funniest or most poignant memories to feature in journaling blocks. If you don't have the time or energy to write down anecdotes or notes while you are at the beach, but you still want to spice up your scrapbook layouts when you get home, consider surfing the Internet for appropriate quotes. For example, sites such as Scrapbook.com features a slew of famous phrases that can be used to add a special touch to a beach vacation memory album.

Some popular quotes include:

"Our memories of the ocean will linger on, long after our footprints in the sand are gone."

"To find a seashell is to discover a world of imagination."

"I have always loved the beach. The smell of the salty water, the wind in my face, and the gentle roar of the waves all combine to create a sense of peace and calm."

"If you want to know how much I love you, count the waves."

"Don't grow up too quickly, lest you forget how much you love the beach."

"In every grain of sand there is a story of the earth."

Don't forget to collect a few mementos of the beach while you are on vacation. You can use items, such as sand, shells and seaweed to embellish your layouts. My neighbor recently created a stunning sandcastle layout featuring items she collected during a family trip to the lake. She selected a large piece of tan colored cardstock and cut it in shape of a sandcastle. Next, she used a craft knife to slice out windows in the castle. Then, she sprayed the cardstock with a photo-safe adhesive, and sprinkled it with a bunch of sand. When the adhesive dried she placed photos of her kids in the windows of the sand castle and added it to the layout. Finally, she added very small shells and tiny pieces of beach glass around the sandcastle cut-out.

Inaugural class of Ohio Kippsters takes the next step toward college

?

When Fordham-sponsored KIPP: Journey Academy first opened in fall 2008, community leaders and school faculty knew it would not be an easy task to get the inaugural class of ?Kippsters? on the road to college. A majority of these students hailed from disadvantaged homes and previously attended low-performing schools where hard work and perseverance were far from the norm.? Their state tests results were poor and some of their parents even had a hard time believing that their children could ever succeed.

The odds were against these students, but failure was never an option for the teachers and staff at KIPP. When the inaugural class of fifth graders walked through the door only 33 percent of them passed the state reading test. Fast forward to 2011 and after just two years at KIPP 73 percent of those same students passed the seventh-grade reading test-- a gain of 40 percentage points.? After many years of hard work and going out into the community to personally invite families and parents to enroll their students in KIPP, the school?s staff and board of directors watched the first class of eighth graders graduate from KIPP earlier this month.

Sixty-four eighth graders graduated from KIPP and will matriculate to some of the area?s best high schools. Come this fall students will begin their next step toward college when the begin at high- performing schools such as Columbus Alternative, St. Charles Preparatory School, Metro High School, and Columbus School for the Girls. Congratulations to these Kippsters. They are truly an example that hard work and dedication pay off ? they are not only a symbol of hope and progress for their families, but for the Linden Park community and anyone who believes that the odds are against them.

Read more about KIPP: Journey Academy?s graduation celebration in this Columbus Dispatch op-ed by Federal Court Judge and Chair of the school?s governing board, Algenon Marbley.

Samsung Galaxy :: [ROM]ParanoidAndroid

Voila.

Bollywood capers rule North America, Canada

Phil Contrino

Moviegoers pretty much turn off their brains during the summer. In between barbecuing and trips to the beach, the average North American film fan is looking for something easy to digest. Corny one-liners! Lots of explosions! Indian films that open in North America are not immune to this reality.

The first full weekend of May always marks the unofficial start of the summer movie season - moviegoers are trained to expect the first major tentpole of the season to open that weekend. This year, The Avengers kicked off the summer in grand style with a record-setting $207.4 million (Rs 1,175 crore) debut. Yet even with all the fuss around Hollywood blockbusters, the audience for Indian films does not go away.

Eros International opened two films right before the summer season began: Vicky Donor (released April 20 in North America) and Tezz (released April 27 in North America). Donor played on only 50 screens compared to Tezz's 97, but it was still able to gross $549,000 to Tezz's $229,931.

The relatively weak performance of Tezz comes as a bit of shock given that star Anil Kapoor is a recognisable face in North America thanks to his supporting turns in Slumdog Millionaire and Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol. Comparing Vicky Donor to Tezz proves that North Americans want escapism during the summer - even when it comes to foreign films.

Beating the French

UTV saw this trend first hand in May when Kalakalappu @ Masala Cafe, a comedy about two brothers trying to save their cafe, grossed $30,949 from 10 locations while Grandmaster, a serious action thriller, managed $17,077 from nine locations.

On June 1, UTV opened the action/comedy Rowdy Rathore to a solid $381,784 opening weekend. The film has since hit North American earnings of $744,164. Rowdy Rathore is actually the most successful foreign-language to open in North America since May 4 - no small accomplishment. Other countries have pretty much stayed away from the summer season. The closest foreign earner to Rowdy Rathore is France's Polisse with $171,320.

UTV didn't have as much luck with Arjun: The Warrior Prince, a dramatic animated film. Arjun managed only $10,017 from 10 locations. Still, it represents a very promising step for the world of Indian animation. "This is just the beginning for animated films from India," says Vajir Singh, editor of Box Office India. "The cost of production is very high, so is the technology. We're getting better and better with each passing Friday. Earlier, we used to face tough competition from Hollywood movies as their technology is much more advanced. Not anymore."

Animation's Hot

Animation is always incredibly popular during the summer because it represents an event - much like going to an amusement park or a baseball game - that is safe for the whole family to enjoy. Indian filmmakers would be smart to stay with the format while also taking notes on what Disney/Pixar, DreamWorks and Universal are doing. DreamWorks has already turned Madagascar 3 into a $290 million-plus worldwide hit. Meanwhile, Disney/Pixar's Brave is poised to do serious business well into July.

"Kids enjoy watching comedy movies. And for every kid, three tickets are sold as they come with their parents," says Singh.

This past weekend, Eros opened producer Vinod Chopra's Ferrari Ki Sawaari to a healthy $240,792.
