Hudson will play Braff?s wife in the movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Braff will direct the film as he did with ?Garden State,? and has written the film?s script with his brother Adam Braff.

Braff was impressed with Hudson?s Oscar-nominated role in the 2000 film ?Almost Famous,? according to The Wrap, and the two are now ?good friends,? the actor said.

The movie will follow a man named Aidan Bloom, played by Braff, a father and husband and trying to find work as an actor and searching for meaning in his life. After other educational options fall through, he begins to homeschool his children.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film will also star ?Homeland? actor Mandy Patinkin, ?Book of Mormon? actor Josh Gad, and Jim Parsons of "The Big Bang Theory," who also appeared in Braff?s 2004 film ?Garden State.?

Braff raised more than $2 million via the website Kickstarter for the film in four days. He has also secured funding for the film from Worldview Entertainment. The film?s total on Kickstarter is currently at more than $2,700,000.

?Garden State,? which was written and directed by Braff, centered on an aspiring actor (Braff) who returned to his hometown for his mother?s funeral. The movie also starred Natalie Portman, Ian Holm, and Peter Sarsgaard.

Hudson?s breakout role is widely considered to be her part in ?Almost Famous.? She has also starred in romantic comedies such as ?How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days,? ?Raising Helen,? ?Fool?s Gold,? and ?Bride Wars.? She appeared in the film adaptation of the musical ?Nine? and has recently guest-starred on the Fox series ?Glee? as a tough teacher named Cassandra July.

According to Braff?s Kickstarter website, he hopes to release ?Wish? in September 2014.

UFC on FX 8?s Three Stars: Vitor Belfort, Ronaldo Souza and Fabio Maldonado

Who stood out in Saturday night's fights?

No. 1 star -- Vitor Belfort*: We will be watching highlights of that knockout for years to come. The timing, explosion and landing spot of the kick were just perfect. The knockout was so great the UFC didn't even have to say who they were talking about when they announced who the $50,000 Knockout of the Night bonus was awarded to.

Then why the asterisk? Because it's hard to look at what Belfort did and not wonder if the testosterone replacement therapy he used throughout his camp played a part. His late-career resurgence doesn't pass the smell test.

No. 2 star -- Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza: Did Chris Camozzi even realize he was in the arm triangle choke that Souza so expertly applied? Souza's performance on Saturday night served notice to the UFC middleweights. It also earned him a $50,000 Submission of the Night bonus. All in all, it was a pretty good start in the UFC for the Strikeforce veteran.

No. 3 star -- Fabio Maldonado: Perhaps it wasn't the prettiest win of the night, but it got the job done against some tough odds. Maldonado withstood a kick to the groin that made even me wince and came back to win by decision. That's more than enough to earn a star.

Who stood out for you? Speak up on Facebook or Twitter.

Combined wood and tobacco smoke exposure increases risk and symptoms of COPD

May 20, 2013 ? People who are consistently exposed to both wood smoke and tobacco smoke are at a greater risk for developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and for experiencing more frequent and severe symptoms of the disease, as well as more severe airflow obstruction, than those who are exposed to only one type of smoke, according to the results of a new population-based study conducted by researchers in Colombia.

The results of the study will be presented at the ATS 2013 International Conference.

"Although previous studies have shown a definite link between wood smoke exposure and the development of COPD, those studies were case-controls and case series of patients with similar disease or health profiles," said study lead author Carlos Torres-Duque, M.D., director of research at the Fundacion Neumologica Colombiana in Bogota. "This new data derives from a population-based study that looked at wood smoke exposure and the overall prevalence of COPD, as well as the characteristics of the disease and those who suffer from it."

About 40 percent of the world's population uses solid fuels -- especially wood -- for cooking or heating, he noted.

For this study, Dr. Torres-Duque and his colleagues used data from the PREPOCOL (Prevalencia de la Enfermedad Pulmonar Obstructiva Cr?nica en Colombia) study which evaluated the prevalence of COPD among the adult residents of five Colombian cities. The study included 5,539 subjects, 8.9 percent of whom were diagnosed with COPD. The study participants were divided into four groups: those who were exposed to wood smoke and who had never smoked tobacco (30.9 percent); those who were exposed to tobacco smoke but had no exposure to wood smoke (18.7 percent); those who had been exposed to both types of smoke (29.8 percent); and those who had exposure to neither type of smoke (20.6 percent).

Patients' lung function was measured using spirometry, a technique used to measure the amount of air a person is able to inhale and exhale, and all patients completed a standardized respiratory questionnaire to identify exposure to smoke.

In their initial review of data, the researchers learned that 53 percent of those diagnosed with COPD had both wood and tobacco smoke exposure; moreover, the prevalence of COPD increased as exposure to wood smoke increased.

After adjusting for specific factors including age, active and passive tobacco smoking, education level, history of TB and altitude, the researchers found that wood smoke exposure of 10 or more years posed a significant risk factor for developing COPD in both men and women and those with both wood and tobacco exposure had poorer lung function scores and more phlegm and coughed more frequently than those who had exposure to only one type of smoke.Among the COPD population, those who were exposed only to wood smoke tended to be women, to have higher BMIs and to be shorter than those exposed to tobacco smoke or to a combination of wood and tobacco smoke.

"In the population we studied, exposure to wood smoke was identified as an independent risk factor for developing COPD, both in women and men," Dr. Torres-Duque said. "In addition, the prevalence of COPD was significantly higher in those who were exposed to both wood and tobacco smoke and those with both exposures had more symptoms and more severe disease than those who were exposed to only one type of smoke."

This result suggests that the combination of wood and tobacco smoke produces an additive effect that causes an increase in COPD prevalence and in the frequency of COPD symptoms, he added.

"It is also possible that the responses of the lungs and airways could vary, based on the pollutants to which they're exposed," Dr. Torres-Duque noted.

Future studies might provide additional data regarding varying responses and help clinicians determine specific treatments based on exposures, he said.

I know a little bit Asterisk 1.8, but not the version 10 and 11.

However, about WEBRTC, it seems possible (i think). Try to find some thread into this forum. Otherwise, if it's doable on Asterisk 1.8, then it's doable under Elastix.

Natural Health Source ? Natural Alternatives to HRT For Women

By Steven Hutchings

Nightsweats. Dryness. Pain and mood swings. They?re all symptoms of menopause that can make life miserable, affecting roughly 40% of women who?ve been through this milestone. Are there solutions? You can try hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Or you can try their natural alternatives.

HRT is a system of medical treatments designed to mimic the effects of estrogen and progesterone ? two hormones that level off during menopause. They both play a key role in health and sexual functioning during a woman?s reproductive years, which in part explains how HRT can alleviate some menopause symptoms and make the process more comfortable.

So what?s the catch? Well, a 2002 study found that HRT may increase risk of breast cancer and heart disease, among other ailments. Worse, a follow-up British study found that HRT heightened risk of endometrial (womb) and ovarian cancer. The findings were enough to make two prominent American health organizations warn against HRT for menopause symptoms. Sales have yet to recover.

Of course, you?re not without hope during this transitional stage of the female anatomy. Ever heard of black cohosh or red clover? We?ll discuss them shortly, and several other natural alternatives to HRT, that may soften the blow of those dreaded symptoms.

About HRT

Estrogen and progesterone both line the uterus and prepare it for possible implant of a fertilized egg. Estrogen also influences how the body uses calcium, which is important for bone health and healthy cholesterol levels in the blood.

As menopause approaches, the ovaries produce less of these female sex hormones, which can trigger hot flashes, decreased interest in sex, dryness and other symptoms of menopause, including risk of osteoporosis.

Hormone replacement therapy is designed to reduce menopause symptoms with either:

Estrogen Therapy ? In which the patient supplements with estrogen alone, with a daily pill, patch or cream.

Progesterone/Progestin-Estrogen Hormone Therapy ? Sometimes called ?combination therapy?, this option combines estrogen and a synthetic form of progesterone, called progestin. Combination therapy can cause monthly bleeding, in which case, estrogen and a lower dose of progesterone, taken continuously, may be appropriate.

Women who pursue HRT and still have their uterus should use the combination therapy treatment because estrogen without progesterone can increase risk of endometrial cancer.

Don?t Do HRT If?

You have active breast cancer or history of it. The same goes for women linked to endometrial cancer, abnormal vaginal bleeding, blood clots, history of stroke, liver disease or pregnancy.

Smokers should try to quit the habit before doing HRT as well.

Sales of HRT prescriptions plummeted in 2002 when researchers published their findings from the Women?s Health Initiative study, in which they found that women who did the estrogen/progestin treatment were more likely to experience heart attack, stroke, blood clots and breast cancer.

Two subsequent studies, including the Million Women Study, conducted by British researchers in 2006, confirmed these links and added two more cancer risks to this already concerning series of risks from HRT.

Some medical experts take issue with how researchers conducted the studies. They note, for example, that most of the study participants were caucasian, former smokers and slightly overweight. And in March 2013, South African researchers published a review of the three studies?in the Journal of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care, in which they claimed the link to breast cancer is tenuous.

Women who pursue HRT and still have their uterus should use the combination therapy treatment because?estrogen without progesterone can increase risk of endometrial cancer.

Still, it?s a discerning link. We know that HRT can increase risk of endometrial cancer, blood clots and stroke in some women. Knowing that, it?s not a huge leap from there to conclude the link between HRT and breast cancer is more than noteworthy.

Having reviewed this information, speak with your doctor if you?re still interested in HRT. He knows your medical history and can best recommend your strategy from there. Even then, he?ll likely recommend a low dose and for the shortest time possible.

You?ve got another option too: treat menopause symptoms naturally, without HRT. A wise choice if you?re in this camp, and it starts with the foods that end up on your plate.

The Menopause Diet

Menopause is a biological milestone in a woman?s body. You might alleviate symptoms during and after this momentous occasion with dietary patterns including:

Up your calcium intake ? Calcium tends to trail off during menopause, which in part explains why women are at higher risk of osteoporosis. Aim to eat and/or drink four sources of calcium each day, whether that?s dairy, fish with bones, broccoli or legumes, among others. Women above 51 should aim for 1,200 grams of calcium each day.

Eat more iron ? Like calcium, iron levels fall during menopause, making it important to get at least three iron servings each day. Sources of iron include lean red meat, poultry, fish, eggs, nuts and green leafy vegetables. Your daily target: 8 mg.

Fibre ? It?s hard to go wrong with fibre-rich foods like whole grain breads, cereal, pasta, (brown) rice, fresh fruits and vegetables. Try for 21 grams each day and you?re much less likely to experience digestion problems too.

Read the labels ? Check the labels of packaged foods to help you buy more nutritious foods for a healthy lifestyle.

Drink water ? Aim for eight glasses of water each day. This meets the needs of most adult women while factoring in variables like daily calories consumed, activity levels and climate.

Keep a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 20 and 24 ? This gets more difficult with age, but do try, because it will affect menopause symptoms. Reduce portion size if necessary, or cut back on high fat foods rather than skipping meals. Speak with your doctor or a dietician for more information.

Limit high fat foods ? As a general rule of thumb, fats should comprise 25%-35% of your diet, with saturated fats limited to 7% because they raise unhealthy cholesterol levels and increase risk of heart disease. Try to keep cholesterol to 300 mg daily while you?re at it, and severely limit (or abstain from) trans fats.

Watch the sugar and salt ? Excessive sodium can raise blood pressure. Smoked, salt-cured and charbroiled foods aren?t much better because they contain high levels of nitrates, which are linked to cancer.

Limit alcohol ? Keep alcohol consumption to one drink per day.

Black Cohosh: A Natural Alternative to HRT

The menopause diet is a good place to start and should at least reduce menopause symptoms. Now, do you want natural alternatives to HRT? Try black cohosh root.

You might?ve heard of this tall, flowering plant before. Native to eastern North America, native Americans have used black cohosh for at least 200 years to ease menstrual cramps and symptoms of menopause. Natural health enthusiasts have caught on too; it?s now approved by the German government as a natural menopause treatment, and sales are brisk in the United States.

Research shows a beneficial effect between black cohosh and menopause. Early German studies reveal that it improved both physical and psychological symptoms, including dryness, hot flashes, night sweats and anxiety. In one study, of 120 women, black cohosh was more effective at reducing night sweats and hot flashes than the antidepressant Prozac.

Studies are back and forth with black cohosh. Some have found little benefit, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) claims that many of the early studies were poorly designed and don?t explore use of black cohosh root beyond six months.

Nonetheless, the proof is there. Clinical studies show that black cohosh root can reduce menopause symptoms at least on a short-term basis. Even ACOG, the same organization that criticizes some of the earlier black cohosh studies, recognizes its value as a natural menopause treatment.

You can buy black cohosh root as capsules or tablets, liquid tinctures, extracts or dried root to make a tea. The recommended daily dose for black cohosh root is between 40-80 mg per day. Look for tablets standardized with 1 mg of 27-deoxyactein. Or alternatively, buy it in a natural libido pill for women like Provestra.

To make a black cohosh tea, put 20 g of the dried root in 34 oz of water. Boil the water, then let simmer for 20-30 minutes until the liquid is reduced by a third. Then strain, cover and store it in the refrigerator or a cool place. Drink black cohosh tea three times daily.

Red Clover, Probiotics and a Few Others

As well, red clover might be a good natural remedy for menopause symptoms, according to research published in the Journal of the British Menopause Society, in which researchers found this isoflavone reduced bone loss, improved cardiovascular health and may offer protection from breast and endometrial cancer.

Red clover might also reduce hot flashes in perimenopausal and menopausal women. In one eight week study, women who took a 40 mg red clover supplement each day reported a 58% lower incidence of hot flashes, with reduced severity of night sweats as well.

The red clover supplement, Promensil, is available over the counter and without a prescription.

In one eight week study, women who took a 40 mg red clover supplement each day reported a 58% lower incidence of hot flashes, with reduced severity of night sweats as well.

You can also try probiotics. The Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifido strains are the ?good? bacteria?that live in the intestines. They establish balance in the gut and kill dangerous microflora, but they also assist with metabolism and help the body use estrogen. Some experts believe they also reduce yeast infections. Get probiotics from food and supplements.

Finally, consider a book written by pharmacist Steven G. Ottariano, Medicinal Herbal Therapy: A Pharmacist?s Viewpoint, in which he discusses the many vitamins and minerals he believes can help women treat menopause symptoms. Among his favorites? Vitamin E, Dong Quai, Evening Primrose Oil and Ginseng.

Resources For Menopause

Of course, you?re not alone in this journey. Menopause symptoms ? those severe enough to make women consider HRT ? affect most women at some point during this time of immense change. This being the global village that it is, you might find the following internet resources can help you reduce symptoms, preferably without HRT, for smooth sailing to the next phase of your life:

WebMD ? WebMD has a little something for everyone. Their menopause section is particularly extensive.

Women?s Health Initiative ? The group that championed the first large-scale study of HRT and its health risks, the Women?s Health Initiative remains at the forefront of HRT research and safety. You can learn more about the study and the most recent developments on their website.

Prevention ? We can?t finish an article on natural alternatives to HRT for women without mention of the kings of natural health. Prevention magazine has a great section on menopause. Check out their article, 14 Natural Remedies for Hot Flashes.

Police call fatal NYC shooting a hate crime

NEW YORK (AP) ? A gunman used homophobic slurs before firing a fatal shot point-blank into a man's face on a Manhattan street alive with a weekend midnight crowd, a killing New York's police commissioner called an "anti-gay" hate crime.

Before opening fire early Saturday, the gunman confronted the victim and his companion in Greenwich Village and asked if they "want to die here," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

The shooting follows a series of recent bias attacks on gay men in New York, but this was the first deadly one.

About 15 minutes before the bloodshed, the gunman was seen urinating outside an upscale restaurant a few blocks from the Stonewall Inn, a birthplace of the gay rights movement, according to Kelly. He then went inside the restaurant and asked if someone was going to call the police about him.

Police said the gunman, identified later as 33-year-old Elliot Morales, told both the bartender and the manager, "if you do call the police, I'll shoot you" and opened his sweatshirt to reveal a shoulder holster with a revolver and made anti-gay remarks, Kelly said.

Morales has a previous arrest for attempted murder in 1998, police said. Details of that arrest weren't immediately clear.

Out on the street minutes later, the gunman and two others approached the 32-year-old victim, identified by police as Harlem resident Marc Carson, and a companion on Sixth Avenue. One of the three men yelled out, "What are you, gay wrestlers?" according to Kelly.

The two men stopped, turned and, according to Kelly, said to the group taunting them, "What did you say?" ? then kept walking.

"There were no words that would aggravate the situation spoken by the victims here," the commissioner said. "This fully looks to be a hate crime, a bias crime."

Two of the men kept following the victim and his companion, Kelly said, adding that witnesses saw the pair approach from behind while repeating anti-gay slurs.

The gunman asked the men if they were together and when he got an affirmative answer, Kelly said, "we believe that the perpetrator says to the victim, 'Do you want to die here?'"

That's when suspect produced the revolver and fired one shot into Carson's cheek, Kelly said.

The gunman fled to 3rd Street, where an officer who had heard a description on his radio spotted him and ordered him to stop, Kelly said. The suspected gunman threw his revolver to the ground and was arrested on the edge of the New York University campus.

Police found the mortally wounded victim on the pavement. He was pronounced dead at Beth Israel Hospital.

Authorities said they could not immediately identify Morales because he was carrying forged identification. But investigators learned his name after the forged ID was submitted to the department's Facial Recognition Unit.

Of the other recent New York bias attacks on gay men, one was reported last week on nearby Christopher Street, where a 35-year-old man told police he was beaten up and heard anti-gay words after leaving a bar.

On May 10, two men trying to enter a billiards hall on West 32nd Street were approached and beaten by a group shouting homophobic slurs, police said.

And on May 5, a man and his partner were beaten near Madison Square Garden after a group of men wearing Knicks shirts hurled anti-gay slurs at them.

The commissioner said Saturday that police were looking into possible links between the incidents.

Multiple lawmakers have condemned the violence.

"I am horrified to learn that last night, a gay man was murdered in my district after being chased out of a Greenwich Village restaurant and assailed by homophobic slurs," New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn said. "I stand with all New Yorkers in condemning this attack."

The Democratic mayoral candidate said there was a time in New York when hate crimes were common ? when two people of the same gender could not walk down the street arm in arm without fear of violence and harassment.

But "we refuse to go back to that time," she said. "This kind of shocking and senseless violence, so deeply rooted in hate, has no place in a city whose greatest strength will always be its diversity."

New York State Sen. Brad Hoylman, a Democrat whose district includes Manhattan's West Side, called on New Yorkers "to unite against hate and gun violence."

And State Assemblywoman Deborah Glick declared that "New York is not open for bigotry."

The New York City Anti-Violence Project plans to gather on Friday night for what it calls a "Community Safety Night."

Tunisia security blocks salafi conference, 1 dead

KAIROUAN, Tunisia (AP) ? Around 11,000 police officers and soldiers blocked an annual conference Sunday at Tunisia's main religious center by a radical Islamist movement that has been implicated in attacks across the country, prompting clashes with angry youths that resulted in one death.

Security checkpoints were in place and patrols conducted throughout the central city of Kairouan after authorities declared the conference to be held there by the ultraconservative Muslim group Ansar al-Shariah a threat "to security and public order."

Police clashed with stone-throwing young men in the center of the town and fired tear gas to disperse them. Kairouan hospital reported that five civilians and four policemen were injured in the clashes.

Far more serious, however, was a confrontation between police and supporters of Ansar al-Shariah in the low-income suburb of Ettadamon, north of the capital Tunis, where young men threw stones and burned tires and security forces responded with tear gas and warning shots.

The state news agency reported that a 27-year-old was killed in the clashes and 11 policemen injured.

The leader of Ansar al-Shariah, Seifallah Ben Hassine, is wanted for his involvement in a mob attack on the U.S. Embassy in September, and his followers have been accused of attacking art galleries, police stations and cinemas.

The robust response to the conference by security forces is unprecedented since the 2011 overthrow of President Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali, who presided over a strong police state.

The government, led by the moderate Islamist Ennahda Party, has long been accused by the opposition of being lax with attacks by ultraconservative Muslims, called salafis, on what they deem to be impious in the country.

Ansar al-Shariah's combative rhetoric, however, appears to have united the country against it. In a national dialogue conference involving unions, civil society and political parties Thursday, Ansar al-Shariah was widely condemned. The discovery of al-Qaida-linked militants in mountains along the Algerian border also alarmed people.

Alaya Allami, an expert on Islamic movements in Tunisia, said Ansar al-Shariah's more aggressive stance had resulted in a backlash in society and isolated it further.

The Tunisian army is hunting al-Qaida-linked militants in Tunisia's mountains of Jebel Chambi, and Allami said the operation "and the approach of elections have threatened these radical currents and caused them to try to impose themselves more on the social scene."

The spokesman of Ansar al-Shariah, Seifeddine Rais, was detained by authorities Sunday morning. Rais on Thursday said authorities would bear responsibility for any blood spilled if they tried to ban the conference.

Security has been high around Kairouan since Saturday, with police checking IDs and searching the cars of anyone entering the city.

Residents appeared to welcome the security and handed out roses to patrolling police, offering them encouragement.

Since the overthrow of Ben Ali in an uprising that heralded the region-wide Arab Spring, Tunisia's salafis have become increasingly aggressive about preaching their conservative version of Islam.

Last year's Ansar al-Shariah conference in Kairouan drew about 4,000 attendees and featured sword-waving horse riders and martial arts displays, along with a great deal of fiery rhetoric.

Syria's Assad: Little chance peace talks would succeed - newspaper

LIMA (Reuters) - Proposed peace talks for Syria would not curb "terrorism" in the country and it is unrealistic to think they would succeed, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said in an interview published in an Argentine newspaper on Saturday.

Speaking in Syria with the newspaper Clarin, Assad said he was doubtful that mediation the United States and Russia have proposed could settle a deadly conflict that has convulsed the country for two years.

"There is confusion in the world between a political solution and terrorism. They think a political conference will halt terrorists in the country. That is unrealistic," he said in reference to insurgent groups seeking to unseat him.

Rebels demanding Assad's resignation have also voiced skepticism about the proposed peace talks.

Assad reiterated he would not resign and said peace talks would not make sense because the opposition was too fragmented to negotiate an agreement.

"No dialogue with terrorists," he said. Videotaped excerpts of the interview were posted on Clarin's website.

The Syrian conflict started with mainly peaceful demonstrations against Assad, but turned into a civil war in which the United Nations says tens of thousands of people have been killed.

Islamist militants have emerged as the most potent of the anti-Assad rebels.

On Friday, the outlook for talks appeared to hit snags.

The United States chided Russia for sending missiles to the Syrian government, while France made clear it would oppose any meeting if Assad's regional ally Iran were invited.

Russia's position is that Tehran should be part of any solution.

FBI searches apartment in ricin letter case

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) ? Authorities in hazardous materials suits searched a downtown Spokane apartment Saturday, investigating the recent discovery of a pair of letters containing the deadly poison ricin.

Few details have been released in the case, and no arrests have been made. Federal investigators have been searching for the person who sent the letters, which were postmarked Tuesday in Spokane.

The letters were addressed to the downtown post office and the adjacent federal building, but authorities have not released a potential motive. They also have not said whether the letters targeted anyone in particular.

Ricin is a highly toxic substance made from castor beans. As little as 500 micrograms, the size of the head of a pin, can kill an adult if inhaled or ingested.

There have been no reports of illness connected to the letters.

FBI agents, Spokane police and U.S. Postal Service inspectors descended on the three-story apartment building Saturday morning and the investigation continued into the afternoon.

FBI spokeswoman Ayn Sandalo Dietrich would not say whether agents were questioning anyone in connection with the case.

"We are not actively looking for a subject," Sandalo Dietrich said. "We are not asking the public's help in bringing someone in."

Despite the hazmat suits, officials said apartment residents were not at risk, and people were seen coming in and out of the brick building in the city's historic Browne's Addition neighborhood.

"There's no public risk," Sandalo Dietrich said.

Scott Ward has lived in the building for three years, and lives on the second floor near the apartment that was being searched. He said he does not know the neighbor who lives in that apartment.

"He's a guy with a big beard," Ward said. "He sticks to himself."

"He doesn't talk," said Ward, who added he was awakened about 7 a.m. by the sounds of "banging and what sounded like a big vacuum."

Building resident Jim Lehman said he was asleep when he was called by a friend. "He said, 'hey Jim, you're surrounded,'" Lehman said. Lehman said he saw workers in hazardous material suits working in a second floor apartment.

"It was all gas masks and the door was open and there were hoses in there," Lehman said.

Sandalo Dietrich would not say specifically why the FBI was searching the apartment.

"Information we developed led us to believe this was a productive spot to search," she said.

Two letters containing the substance were intercepted at the downtown Spokane post office Tuesday.

The Postal Service has received no other reports of similar letters, said Jeremy Leder of the Postal Inspection Service on Saturday.

In a statement following the discovery, the Postal Service said the "crude form of the ricin suggests that it does not present a health risk to U.S. Postal Service personnel or to others who may have come in contact with the letter."

The Spokane investigation comes a month after letters containing ricin were addressed to President Barack Obama, a U.S. senator and a Mississippi judge. A Mississippi man has been arrested in that case.

Blinking skirts, fake tans: It must be Eurovision

MALMO, Sweden (AP) ? Flashy skirts, fake tans, fur and feathers: It's the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.

The televised extravaganza, with an audience of 125 million worldwide, is now in its 58th year. Once again without fail, it has produced a mix of bubble-gum pop songs, somber ballads, bagpipes, accordions and bizarrely kitsch musical productions.

The winner, chosen from 40 countries, is picked by juries and television viewers across the continent. Contests this week have whittled the field down to 26 acts for Saturday's final.

A look at some of this year's notable performances:

CEZAR-ROMANIA

Dracula reborn with a techno beat and pyrotechnics: that's Cezar. The contra-tenor famed for international opera productions is attempting a crossover opera-pop number with "It's My Life." The result: A man with a powerful voice amid a bizarre spectacle.

KRISTA SIEGFRID-FINLAND

The blonde whirlwind from Finland caused a stir by kissing a female dancer in her group. It didn't raise eyebrows in the campy competition that is Eurovision, but the move upset some people in Europe, where it was interpreted as a stand for gay marriage.

EMMELIE DE FOREST-DENMARK

This year's favorite according to the bookies. Denmark's answer to Shakira, minus the body gyrations. Borrowing Loreen of Sweden's winning concept from last year, she performs barefoot but has dropped the mystique in favor of an earthy, innocent look.

ZLATA OGNEVICH-UKRAINE

Ognevich hits a hippie theme with butterflies, forests and mists. For an unknown reason, she is carried onto the stage by the tallest man in the U.S. ? Ukrainian-born Igor Vovkovinskiy, who measures 7 feet, 8 inches (2.13 meters). Her traditional, up-tempo Eurovision pop tune displays little originality.

BONNIE TYLER-BRITAIN

Despite last year's fiasco for Britain's 76-year-old Engelbert Humperdinck, the island nation once again places its hopes on a seasoned performer. This time it's 'Total Eclipse of the Heart" star Bonnie Tyler. The 61-year-old 1980s singer has sold more than 20 million records but this time delivers the sleepy ballad "Believe In Me."

ANOUK-NETHERLANDS

Sixteen years after her rock anthem hit "Nobody's Wife," Anouk returns to the international stage with the somber "Birds." Dressed entirely in black, she stands center stage, relying on her voice and a soft string orchestra.

MARGARET BERGER-NORWAY

This clean-cut performance is the bookies' second favorite. With a high-pitch voice and a heavy techno beat, Berger produces a traditional Eurovision pop tune.

Will Amazon raise its prices?

Razor-thin margins and several new investments led to a profit loss for Amazon in 2012. Will Amazon's shoppers pay the price?

By Angela Colley,?Contributor / May 18, 2013

An Amazon.com package is prepared for shipment by a United Parcel Service driver in Palo Alto, Calif. Amazon had a revenue gap in 2012, and it may well be consumers who foot the bill.

Paul Sakuma/AP/File

In its fourth quarter earnings report, Amazon reported a net sales increase of 27%, raising its sales revenue to $61.09 billion. The retail giant's operational costs also went down by 22% to $676 million, but Amazon ended its year in the red with a net loss of $39 million, compared to its net income of $631 million in 2011.

The company's lack of profits in 2012 are mostly a result of Amazon's hefty investments and overall thin profit margins. And while no expert blames customers for not buying enough, it very well may be Amazon shoppers who will pay the price to make up for that revenue gap.

Consumers Could Be Paying for Amazon's Lack of Profits

These costly investments include developing 20 new fulfillment centers (making for a total of 89) and hiring 50,000 temporary workers during the holidays. Additionally, the Kindle and Amazon's video service are not very lucrative for the retail giant. According to Forbes, Amazon has been subsidizing the cost of the Kindle Fire in "order to gain a foothold in the market for tablets." Amazon also invested more in its video services last year: the company added 19 million pieces of digital media in 2011, all at no small price tag.

And while investments account for a portion of lost profits, Amazon's own price points may also be a factor. The company is famous for deep discounts on everything from socks to small kitchen appliances ? a reputation it needs in order to keep a competitive edge. But low prices also mean all-around thin profit margins.

Independent analyst Paul Santos thinks that as Amazon continues to sell more products every year, the cost of selling will increase faster than revenue will, if the retailer continues to offer those famously low prices. In other words, Amazon won't be able to make a profit by selling greater quantities of goods at rock bottom prices. Instead, to boost profits, Santos thinks Amazon will have to raise prices. And it may have already. According to Santos, a number of Subscribe & Save products have gone up in price, some of which went "above and beyond any reasonable level, to the point where customers started finding out that much of the stuff they were buying could be had cheaper in the offline world."

What's more, a recent Kantar Retail study found that Amazon might not be the cheapest place to shop for grocery and household items to begin with. Kantar Retail shopped for 36 different products at Amazon, Walmart.com, and in Walmart's brick and mortar stores. The result ? Amazon was 25% more expensive than Walmart, and 12.2% more expensive than Walmart.com.

So what does this mean for the everyday Amazon shopper? Well, if Amazon's calculated investment in the Kindle gives it the foothold it was hoping for ? and more customers start renting digital books, movies, and TV shows from Amazon's digital services ? profits should rise without us suffering sticker shock. But if Amazon's long-term plan to lower prices and "invest heavily in the future" fails and the retailer can't improve its profit margins by business development alone, the company may turn to raising its prices.

If that's the case, would you continue to buy from Amazon, readers? Or would you turn to other online retailers for potentially cheaper items?

Weinstein showcases Grace Kelly, Mandela flicks

CANNES, France (AP) ? The Weinstein Company's fall slate of awards contenders will feature a glamorous Grace Kelly, a brawny Nelson Mandela and a mysterious J.D. Salinger.

Harvey Weinstein previewed some of his company's most anticipated upcoming releases at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday. He's made a habit of such previews, doing the same in 2012 for the Oscar-winning films "Django Unchained" and "Silver Linings Playbook." Last year, Weinstein said, was "as good as any year at Miramax" ? the first film company run by Weinstein and his brother Bob.

Nicole Kidman, a jury member at the festival, was on hand to introduce footage of "Grace of Monaco," in which she stars as Kelly after wedding Prince Rainier III (played by Tim Roth). It looks to be the kind of grand, alluring performance that often leads to an Oscar nomination.

"She has to go to a jury meeting to hopefully decide which of my movies wins the Palme d'Or," joked Weinstein before Kidman departed.

Weinstein has two films in competition at Cannes: the Bangkok noir "Only God Forgives" with Ryan Gosling and Kristen Scott Thomas, and the period film "The Immigrant" with Marion Cotillard and Joaquin Phoenix. He added, referring to jury head Steven Spielberg: "I've certainly given Steven enough money over the years."

Weinstein also showcased the Salinger documentary, "Salinger," which is being advertised like a kind of detective tale about the reclusive author. Weinstein made no bones about his strong interest in making a "Catcher in the Rye" film, noting that he was told by Salinger's estate that the decades-long list of suitors begins not with him, but Elia Kazan and Mike Nichols.

The long-awaited "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom," starring Idris Elba, places Mandela almost in an action film context. The South African revolutionary appeared in footage shown Friday as a muscly firebrand, with hip-hop as part of the score.

"This is not your daddy's HBO version of Mandela," said Weinstein. "This is the kickass version of Mandela."

One of Weinstein's biggest releases for this fall is "August: Osage County," based on the acclaimed Tracy Letts play. It stars Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. Also with Oscar ambitions is the company's "The Butler," from "Precious" director Lee Daniels. Forrest Whitaker plays a long-serving White House butler in a sentimental tale through history likely to draw comparisons to "Forrest Gump."

Following the Weinstein Co.'s recent announcement that it will make a sequel to 2000's Oscar-winning "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon," Weinstein said he plans to make a franchise out of it. The Ang Lee film was based on a book in a series of five by Wang Dulu. Weinstein plans to make films of all of them.

Whether the fall collection of films will add up to the Oscar gold Weinstein covets remains to be seen. But Cannes has often been where he launches those aspirations. In 2011, he had at Cannes the eventual best picture winner, the French ode to silent film, "The Artist."

Two blasts at Iraqi Sunni mosque kill 43

BAQUBA, Iraq (Reuters) - Two bombs exploded outside a Sunni Muslim mosque in the Iraqi city of Baquba as worshippers left Friday prayers, killing at least 43 people in one of the deadliest attacks in a month-long surge in sectarian violence.

Attacks on Sunni and Shi'ite mosques, security forces and tribal leaders have mounted since troops raided a Sunni protest camp near Kirkuk a month ago, and fears are intensifying of a return to all-out conflict.

The increasingly sectarian civil war in neighboring Syria is emboldening Iraqi Sunni insurgents and straining relations between the two Muslim groups in Iraq, where tensions are at their worst since U.S. troops pulled out at the end of 2011.

On Friday, one bomb exploded outside the mosque in Baquba, about 50 km (30 miles) northeast of the capital Baghdad, and a second explosion tore into crowds of people rushing to help victims of the first attack, police said.

Local television showed images of bodies, pools of blood and the victims' scattered shoes.

"I was about 30 meters from the first explosion. When the first exploded, I ran to help them, and the second one went off. I saw bodies flying and I had shrapnel in my neck," said Hashim Munjiz, a college student at the site.

Another eight people were also killed and more than 20 wounded on Friday when a roadside bomb hit people gathering for the funeral of a Sunni Muslim cleric killed in Baghdad in an attack a day earlier.

No group claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Shi'ite Islamist militias, which fought U.S. troops for years after the 2003 invasion, have said they are prepared in case they need to return to war. Sunni insurgents also sometimes hit Sunni targets to provoke conflict.

Sunni Islamist insurgents and al Qaeda's local wing, Islamic State of Iraq, have stepped up attacks since the start of the year to try to provoke a wide-scale sectarian confrontation like the slaughter that killed tens of thousands of Iraqis in 2006-2007.

The Sunni militants accuse Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's Shi'ite-led government of discriminating against their sect.

The United Nations said leaders from all groups needed to end the violence. "Small children are burned alive in cars. Worshippers are cut down outside their own mosques. This is beyond unacceptable," said U.N. envoy Martin Kobler.

April was Iraq's bloodiest month for almost five years, with 712 people killed, according to U.N. figures.

Since the American withdrawal, Iraq's coalition government has been caught up in a power struggle between majority Shi'ites, minority Sunnis and ethnic Kurds who split cabinet posts between them.

Sunnis, who lost their dominance when the U.S.-led invasion toppled Saddam Hussein, have been protesting for months against Maliki, demanding reforms to tough anti-terrorism laws they say are used to unfairly target their sect.

Iraqi Sunni insurgents, some linked to al Qaeda, say they have formed an alliance with the al-Nusra Front Islamist group fighting against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Lawyers plead for mercy for Arias as trial resumes

PHOENIX (AP) ? An attorney for Jodi Arias on Thursday told the jury deciding the former waitress's fate to consider factors including her age, troubled upbringing and talent as an artist, and show her mercy for killing her boyfriend five years ago.

The defense and prosecution delivered opening statements to jurors on whether Arias should get a life sentence or be executed as the case's penalty phase opened in a Phoenix courtroom. The same jury convicted Arias of first-degree murder last week.

Defense lawyer Kirk Nurmi said Arias herself will testify as he listed several factors that the jury can consider in deciding to grant mercy, including her lack of criminal history before the killing and even her skills as a talented artist.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez went through each factor and sought to turn the attention to the gruesome killing, asking what her age, background and art skills have to do with what happened the day Travis Alexander was stabbed nearly 30 times.

Other witnesses in the penalty phase of the trial will include Arias' friends and an ex-boyfriend who lived with her for several years in California. Prosecutors will call family members of Alexander in arguing for a death sentence.

Arias' attorneys earlier asked to step down from the case, but a judge denied the request.

Details about the motion were sealed, but legal experts said Arias complicated efforts for her defense when she gave an interview to Fox affiliate KSAZ minutes after her conviction, saying she preferred death over life in prison.

"I believe death is the ultimate freedom, and I'd rather have my freedom as soon as I can get it," Arias said.

During a closed-door meeting with the judge on Tuesday, Nurmi and Jennifer Willmott sought permission to withdraw from the case, according to court minutes released Thursday.

Los Angeles-area criminal defense lawyer Mark Geragos said Arias' attorneys have a conflict of interest with their efforts to keep their client off death row and Arias' assertion that she'd rather die for her crime.

"It's not highly unusual," he said. "There are cases where defendants make decisions that they're better off on death row, but that puts the lawyer in a conflicted position. You've got a duty as a lawyer to bring the conflict of interest to the courts and disclose it."

Added Phoenix criminal defense lawyer Julio Laboy: "It would be something I would do in my major felony cases if I found that a client was actually working against me and not working with her defense."

Arias cannot choose the death penalty. It's up to the jury to determine a sentence.

On Wednesday, the panel took less than three hours to determine that Arias should be eligible for death in the killing of her one-time lover after prosecutors proved the murder was especially cruel.

Arias, 32, acknowledged killing Alexander at his suburban Phoenix home after a day of sex. She initially denied any involvement then later blamed the attack on masked intruders. Two years after her arrest, she settled on self-defense.

The victim suffered nearly 30 knife wounds in what prosecutors described as an attack fueled by jealous rage after Alexander wanted to end his affair with Arias and prepared to take a trip to Mexico with another woman.

Astronaut in Space Beams Hellos to 'Star Trek Into Darkness' Actors

Hollywood actors who pretend to be space travelers on the USS Enterprise got a lesson on the reality of human spaceflight today from the ultimate expert: a real-life astronaut on the International Space Station.

NASA's Chris Cassidy opened hailing frequencies with select members of the cast and crew from the new movie "Star Trek Into Darkness" in honor of the film's nationwide release today (May 16). Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Alice Eve (Dr. Carol Marcus), John Cho (Sulu) and screenwriter and producer Damon Lindelof asked questions of the high-flying astronaut during the Google+ Hangout.

"I'll just act like this is a perfectly normal thing to be happening," Lindelof said when Cassidy appeared on screen. "We are literally tickled pink to be talking to you right now." [Review: "Star Trek Into Darkness"]

Cassidy also seemed excited to speak to the actors on the ground. Earlier in the week, NASA beamed up a copy of "Star Trek Into Darkness" for the astronaut's entertainment.

"It's great to be with all of you guys," Cassidy said. "I watched the first 30 minutes as I was exercising this morning, and I was riveted as you were racing through the woods and jumping off cliffs. I won't spoil the rest of the movie for anyone that hasn't seen it, but [there are some] pretty cool scenes."

Cassidy went on to explain some of the more unique aspects of life on the International Space Station.

"We have email, of course, but the email only synchronizes about four times a day," Cassidy said. "We do have the ability to go to the Internet, but it's not super fast, it's not super reliable, so it's just really to get news and that sort of thing."

Although the movie's director J.J. Abrams could not participate in the webcast due to a scheduling conflict, he did send in a video question for Michael Fincke and Kjell Lindgren two astronauts that took part in the hangout on the ground. The director wanted to know if Fincke or Lindgren had ever had a personal experience that made either of them believe in extraterrestrial life.

"We all want to know [if we are] the only ones out there, and 'Star Trek' helps us imagine what it could be like if there were other creatures out there, other people other species," Fincke responded. "So I spent a whole year up in space, 381 days, but it was only 240 miles up, so that's not very far in cosmic terms so we think that as we go farther out into the universe, we might find something out there that we don't know about."

While "Star Trek" may be an inspiring piece of entertainment for scientists and astronauts around the world, it is still doesn't necessarily mimic the realities of life in orbit.

"The thing that does grab my attention is that everybody is always walking around and walking onto the bridge of the ship or things like that," Cassidy said. "It's probably hard to make that [realistic] in a movie where technically, how would you make everybody float? So I understand, but it would be far more fun if you could."

travel & leisure: How To Choose Air Charter New England ...

By Kathryn Neal

If you are going for a tour or preparing for a trip you will need to consider hiring air charter New England services. Most people dread using normal airliners because of the tight weighing rules. These rules hinder you from traveling with your entire desired luggage, but that is not the case when you are using private jet services.

Many people cannot contract these services. Some people are not able to hire due to financial limitations since they are very costly. Others who are able to afford do not use them, as they are not comfortable with the safety regulations set by the providers of these private planes.

Getting a good and reliable jet operator on the contrary is a difficult job for many. Some fail to locate reliable providers because they have little or no information of where to search or even the methods required to succeed in their hunt. Others fail to get the right private plane operators and settle for commercial ones simply because they are not ready to do research.

In order to succeed in finding the right operator you will have to utilize some tools. It could be a good idea to consider the online search.
