Du Pengyu stuns Chen Long in title match of 2013 Badminton Asia Championships

China?s talented campaigner Du Pengyu remained invincible in the final round of Badminton Asia Championships and claimed the Men?s Singles crown on Sunday, April 21, 2013.

The grand finale saw him against the World Number two Chen Long and both compatriot shuttlers remained head-to-head for 40 minutes.

Though, this tussle ended in just two games but still both male shuttlers had to sweat hard while piling up final figures of 21-17 and 21-19.

Du Pengyu, who was underrated earlier in this tournament, played impeccable badminton and served the notice of his supremacy.

On the other hand, the prime Chinese player Chen Long looked bit off colour throughout the tussle and his below par performance led him to a straight-set defeat.

In the opening game, Du Pengyu started with a cautious approach and took some time to establish his grip on the game.

Though, he kept on trailing behind on the points table but still he did not allow his rival to make a significant difference.

The first sign of trouble for Chen Long came when the opposing shuttler bagged many valuable points in a row and finished first half of the set with a respectable score position.

After the mid-game break, the top seeded Chen Long made every effort to tip the scale in his favour but some fatal mistakes put his expedition to halt.

Meanwhile, Du Pengyu capitalised his opponent?s blunders and managed to place a winning margin of 21-17.

The following game was also played in similar manner as both Chinese shuttlers challenged each other in all areas of game and kept the audience glued to their chairs until last moment.

Initially, Chen Long showed some class and it was felt that he will be able to storm back into the contest.

The game kept swinging between them until half time but then Du Pengyu struck hard and turned the tables.

He did not make any mistake in third quarter of the set and put his higher ranked rival under huge pressure.

Though, few back-to-back mistakes made things difficult for him but Du Pengyu managed to reinstate his dominance.

He registered a concluding figure of 21-19 and earned the right to be on top of the victory stand of Badminton Asia Championships.
